Matilda
Missing Persons List
The
links I had on here previously went to the
"MATILDAS
INTERNATIONAL MISSING PERSONS LIST"
at: http://www.aaa.com.au/matilda/missing/homepage.shtml
The page contained
about one month's worth of posts. To access the previous listings (the
archives) required a fee of $A49.00, and a $20 Fee to add any photo.
I was notified
on 4th December 2001, by the owner of Matilda, that that aaa matilda had
retired. In an email to me he said: "we have turned off aaa.com.au,
aaamatilda.or/com/net and are using www.aussieseek.com"
The owner of
the site informed me "Melissa, That Link to Matilda on your pages is
now dead." While he omitted to say which (of my) pages, I removed all
links I knew of, and informed him I would be updating this site and asked
for a reciprocal link exchange. I never heard another word.
In a form letter
enclosed under the above comment, he informed me "We have a useful Missing
Persons Page at http://www.aussieseek.com/missingpersons.php" I only
found an empty forum. A big step back from the easy to use form from previously.
On going to
the site, I noticed they had taken our terminology "Missing Persons
Register"
and stated:
"Since
1994 as the Matilda Missings Persons Bureau we have made this Service available
for those persons wishing to find a Missing Person.Alive or sadly dead.
This is the Aussieseek World Missing Persons Register." Missing Persons
Register? That's OUR name. what cheek!!

The International
Social Service
Undertakes
family tracing worldwide. English
Version
The International
Social Service is an international non-governmental organization dedicated
to helping individuals and families with personal or social problems resulting
from migration and international movement. ISS‘s national branches, affiliated
bureaux and correspondents in over 100 countries facilitate communication
between social services to resolve these problems.
The idea of
creating an international social service was developed in 1921, when delegates
from 17 countries met at a world conference in Stockholm in response to
the aftermath of the First World War. In 1924, the International Migration
Service IMS was created. IMS was essentially restricted to Europe and North
America at that time. In 1946, the name of the organization changed to
International Social Service and has become a truly worldwide organization.
Annually, ISS
Worldwide handles close to 20.000 cases involving more than 55.000 individuals.
On average, ISS is able to provide or partially provide services for 70%
of the case load.
