National Missing Persons Unit Australia:  Missing Cases
A State by State Entry & Australians Missing Overseas, which is always woefully out of date.
At last check, nothing had been updated on the site for three months. I know of three people on that list who have been found. One was found deceased, but their list had not been updated.

Also from their website:

"The National Missing Persons Unit (NMPU) commenced in 1995 and is based at the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence in Canberra."

The NMPU coordinates and facilitates a national, integrated approach to missing persons.
It seeks to involve the Australian community in working to reduce the number of missing people and to minimise the consequences when people go missing." (my emphasis)

Information Source: July, 1999 FACT SHEET 2 About the National Missing Persons Unit

Checked: 1st Feb, 2002.

Despite these claims, THE NMPU and Crimestoppers do not WANT anybody else trying to find missing people, in Australia. It doesn't want to involve anyone else, except their own close knit circle and will abuse and harrass anyone that get in thier way. That includes The Missing Persons Register, Crimenet and other smaller services. I refused to be intimidated into closing my site in September, and an attempt to close Crimenet down last year failed. Both services are still going strong, with much PUBLIC SUPPORT.

The NMPU has refused to accept any information from us in regard to missing persons, and refused point blank to return ANY communications emailed to them over a four year period, likewise all calls to thier 1800 number when we were told our call would be returned in three different states, and no time did anybody bother to call us back.

Instead after four years, I was rung and harrassed and abused, and screamed at by a fruitcake identifying herself as Carol Kiernan who claimed she owned the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence in Canberra, then proceeded to tear shreds off me over a percieved slight.
See Update on ABCI for the rest of the story.

According to the NMPU's own website's Media Release by John Ure
"I’m the Director of the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence, where the National Missing Persons Unit is based."

On that same page, it describes Carol as "Manager of the National Missing Persons Unit" Big difference between managing a unit and owning an Intelligence Bureau!!

I'm thoughly disgusted both with the phone call, the attitude and the unwarranted uneccessary abuse.
What is most shameful is the fact nobody never ever bothered to apologise, once they realised that THEY were the ones in the wrong.- Webmaster
