"Dear Melissa,
Up to now
I have not been aware of you, this I find maddening because while Kristi
was missing I tried every which way to find places to put her abduction
on.
Kristi was
returned to her father, Tony on the 2nd Feb 2002, 2 days after the story
was in "Take 5"
It took
9 months to get permission from family court to ask the public's help,
very frustrating, the Federal police would not put a letter into family
court to the effect that they had "used up all their resources" although
they told us they had they wouldn't tell family court.
Then trying to get publicity was another problem, locally it was easy,
nationally it was very difficult, ACA did their bit but TV images wiz by
quickly and people don't remember them.
As far as you seeing no report on Kristi's being found, that is quite bizarre
as well , the family court order to ask the publics help ends with the
recovery of the child, and so ACA was faced with and angry about the fact
that they couldn't tell their public that she had been found.
"Take 5"
persevered until their legal people said they were satisfied that they
couldn't be sued, and printed the story of Kristi's return some 3 weeks
later.
There were
more incredible things happen around the country, the federal police apparently
didn't let their people know, and state police all over were receiving
both hoax and genuine calls that had to be looked into, they found that
on ringing the NSW Federal police they were told that no one knew anything
about the case,so much time was wasted by police already on overload, we
found all this really weird.
Sorry this
has become a bit long winded but you did ask. I went into your site.....when
I saw Kristi named as a missing person. So, could you please clear this
up and say she has been returned and is living happily with her dad. Keep
in touch, I will watch your site from now on."
Thanks,
Elaine De
Jong
(Kristi's
Grandmother)
