Food inflation in Italy - statistics & facts
Consumers in Italy have likely been feeling the strain when purchasing groceries at their favorite food retailers, as costs have been rising, and food and drink prices are no exception. Given the cultural significance of food in Italian people’s lives, this has affected their grocery shopping habits, with affordability now taking precedence over product quality when choosing where to shop for groceries. Food inflation in the country has been steadily rising since mid 2021, peaking at nearly 14 percent by the end of 2022 compared to the same period the previous year. Although there was a continuous decline throughout 2023 and 2024, Italians were still not on the safe side as the inflation rate was again on the rise in the early months of 2025.
