Tea market in Indonesia - statistics & facts
From daily sweet-iced tea and hot tea drinks to more premium packaged varieties, tea has long been a part of Indonesian life. Tea is not only tied to local culture but also to Indonesia's role as one of the world’s largest tea producers and leading tea exporters in the Asia-Pacific region. Tea production in the country is highly concentrated in certain regions. In 2023, West Java alone accounted for nearly two-thirds of the country’s tea production. However, the highest yields were recorded in Sumatran provinces, highlighting disparities across regions and the ongoing nationwide challenge of adopting modern agricultural technologies and rejuvenating old plantations to improve productivity.
