Regional pet food industry overview

The majority of pet food revenue is produced in the United States, followed by China and the United Kingdom. The top six pet food companies globally were all headquartered in the U.S., further showcasing the nation’s dominance in this industry. In recent years, the online sales channel has grown in popularity among pet parents. U.S. online sales of pet foods are estimated to grow by over two billion U.S. dollars between 2023 and 2024. On the global scale, the revenue share of pet foods sold online was estimated to grow by five percent between 2024 and 2029, showing a market opportunity for pet food brands to expand their online and omnichannel sales. Another recent trend in the global pet food market is the decline of consumers loyalty to pet food brands due to the rising prices of pet products. As of 2024, over half of the pet parents in the U.S. and UK switched their pet food brands to cut costs. With the consistent inflation in many consumer categories, this shift to more affordable brands is going to be a new direction for many pet parents across the world.
