Pet stores and brands in the U.S.

The pet store market in the United States is a highly concentrated industry with two companies, PetSmart and PETCO Animal Supplies, accounting for almost a third of the pet store market, based on revenue in 2024. On the demand side, the most important target groups for pet store marketers were pet owners aged between 25 and 64 years, who accounted for almost 80 percent of the total pet store market. Recent sales figures are also evidence of the growth of specialized dog food. In 2024, freeze-dried pet food sales in the United States grew by over seven percent in comparison to the previous year.
