Western Balkan economies have been developing at different rates over the past decades, with some growing steadily since the transition from centrally planned to market economies, while others lag behind. In terms of gross domestic product, Serbia registered the highest figure by far at 82.55 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. Bosnia and Herzegovina ranked second in the region, recording a significantly lower GDP at 28.4 billion U.S. dollars. However, Montenegro takes the lead when it comes to GDP per capita, with approximately 12,800 U.S. dollars, followed by Serbia with around 12,510 U.S. dollars.
