Young people in the UK labor market - statistics & facts
The number of young adults in the United Kingdom that were not in education, employment, or training (NEET) rose to its highest level in more than ten years in 2024, reaching 987,000 in the fourth quarter of that year. Although there has been a general cooling in the UK's labor market since 2022, the recent rise in youth unemployment has been far steeper than that of other age groups in the same time period. Addressing this youth crisis will be a key early test for the relatively new Labour government, which will hope to avoid more young people falling out of education and the labor market.
