An estimated 2.8 million people were employed in the Republic of Ireland as of the first quarter of 2025, with the employment rate in the country reaching 74.7 percent in the same quarter. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the unemployment rate in Ireland climbed to 7.7 percent in March 2021, but has since fallen to more usual levels, with an unemployment rate of four percent reported in May 2025. In this month, there were approximately 118,600 unemployed in Ireland, with youth unemployment at 10.9 percent, down from 20.5 percent in April 2021.
