In 2024, the American bedroom furniture market generated a total of 41.5 billion U.S. dollars, its largest segment being the bedding category, comprising of over 40 percent of the total revenue. The second largest subcategory was the mattress business, with almost 11.6 billion U.S. dollars, while the closets, nightstands, and dressers industry followed close behind, with 10.2 billion U.S. dollars. The furniture and bedding Consumer Price Index for American urban consumers amounted to 129.89 points in 2024, a sharp decline after its peak in 2022.Leading sleep retailers
Some of the biggest companies dominating the mattress market are Somnigroup-owned Tempur-Pedic and Sealy mattress companies, as well as Ashley Sleep by Ashley Furniture. The latter, generated a revenue of 11 billion U.S. dollars in 2024 and operated over 760 stores in the United States, of which over 60 stores were in Texas. In the same year, Sleep Number Corp. and Purple Innovation also generated a significant amount of revenue, reaching 1.7 billion and 488 million U.S. dollars, respectively.Based on consumer satisfaction, Ashley Sleep was the highest ranked mattress company in 2024, where comfort, price, support, durability, warranty, features, and customer service were measured on a 1,000 point scale.
